Gaming has come a long way, from getting better storylines, realistic graphics, amazing gameplay, even updated AI. Many of us have played through "Nintendo Hard" games, or found situations where "The Computer is a Cheating Bastard" but it never had me prepared for one thing: Online Gaming.

Many people rave on about it, Online playing which lets you play with any one across the world. Now I too admit that it is quite fun and enjoyable to play with other gamers, but let me explain a few things that annoy me but online gaming.


First of all, say you're playing a Real-Time Strategy game online (C&C 3 for example), you start building up your base, and for a while, everything seems good. Than, after about 20 minutes of gaming, you start building up base defences and an army, when suddenly, from nowhere, a force of 20 or 25 Kirov Airships fly from no where and demolish your base while you frantically try to build anti-air units.
I fail to see the fun factor, in a game that lasts 5 minutes at tops, mostly when the person you play against clearly has a headset but responds to nothing, and only occaisonally taunts you with such responses as "You're a n00b" or "I Pwned You!"

First Person shooters like Unreal Tournament are another example: You could, charge through the enemy frontlines, trash some vehicles with a Longbow, shoot 2 guys with a shock core rifle, turn around and frag a guy with the flak cannon, grab the flag, retreat back to base and score a point, than return to the base, accidentally get shot and receive "LOL I OWNED YOU!"

The worst for this style has to be fighting games however. Like Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, or Soul Caliber IV. In many cases, you can be winning the fight well, and after a well fought match, the player resorts to using a move which can be used to score multiple hits while you can't recover,Using the same move repeatedly non stop while you're stunned, which leads to your demise.

Hows about MMORPGs, where you just start off, and than somebody at level 50 decides to attack your level 1 character just because "THEY CAN!"

In my opinion, the idea of playing with people online is an amazing idea, however, I fail to believe it shows true skill. Your record could read 8/32 in an online game, but in real gaming, you have bested Event Match 51, Demolished Tyrant Lord Baal, Destroyed 30 Metal Gear Rays, Defeated Dr. Robotnik with the seven Chaos Emeralds, Saved the Galaxy and the Grand Star, shot your way through dozens of Trevelyen's body guards, Defeated Gruntilda and Hag 1, slashed your way through the plains of Oblivion, saved the princess in this castle and managed to eat screen after screen of power pellets without touching a ghost!

So the next time comparing your gamer stats with another online, think of it in that way. Even if you aren't the best online, or you destroy everyone Online, it's not the same as playing through a real game, even if the AI is retarded XD
