Almost all Video games have great music, and the music is almost always meant to put you in the right mood. In the case of the Dungeon themes, they are meant to prepare you for the battle with the big bad waiting at the end. So here is a list of my top 10 favourite Dungeon and Stage themes, also don't be surprised if most of them are Final Dungeons. Enjoy and remember this is opinion, you don't have to take this seriously.


10. Dark Castle
Game: Kirby's Dreamland 2

Info: This song, which is without a doubt one of the best themes I have heard from a gameboy game is the theme from the Final World in Kirby's Dreamland 2, Dark Castle. This song is awesome to listen to, and is just so unique for a Gameboy game. I personally also hope that Nintendo and Hal Labs recreate this game, since almost all the other Kirby games have been remade, so why not this one?

9. Brinstar Overgrown
Game: Super Metroid

Info: Brinstar was one of the first songs you hear from the original Metroid, so when I first played Super Metroid I expected it to be fairly early. When I reached Brinstar and instead heard this... My mind was blown by how awesome this song is. Brinstar Overgrown has such a unique beat to it, and is just so good, that Nintendo actually reused it for the mUltiplayer theme for Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (It is also in Brawl).

8. Skull Castle - Interior
Game: Mega Man 3, Mega Man the Wily Wars

Info: Mega Man 3 was the first Mega Man game I beat but it wasn't the first I played (Thank you Mega man 2), but I have to admit, The Skull Castle - Interior theme had me in the mood all the way through. While I like the original version, I actually like the Wily Wars version more because I feel the beat was cooler. Eithor way, It is an awesome song.

7. Final Egg
Game: Sonic Adventure

Info: Just listening to the song gets me hyped up. This is one of my favourite things that came from the Sonic 3D games: Along with great characters, great story, comes greater music. Final Egg zone had one of the coolest dungeon themes I have heard, and is truly a piece of work.

6. Skull Castle
Game: Mega Man 2, Mega Man the Wily Wars

Info: I still think this is probably the best theme in Mega Man. Mega Man 2's Wily Stage theme blew the first one away, and continued the ride onward. For some reason, it's always just a little bit better than ones that follow. Either way, Wily Stage 1, Skull Castle, Okkunsenman, whatever you wanna call it, is just such an awesome song.

5. Death Egg Zone
Game: Sonic 3 & Knuckles

Info: Whenever I hear this song, I remember the days when to me, Sonic 3 & Knuckles was the best game of all time (It was replaced with CD after I finished it) but man, the game to me is still one of the best. The Death Egg zone qas so amazing, but it's song was even better. I personally think Act 1 sounds better.

4. The Gate
Game: Super Mario RPG

Info: This song is so cool. Seriously, The Gate's theme was just amazing, and I personally think it is one of the cooler songs in Mario RPG (And thats saying a lot since most of the songs in Mario RPG kicked arse ). All I have to say about this one, is it's the final dungeon theme.

3. Doom Castle
Game: Final Fantasy Mystic Quest

Info: Okay, so Mystic quest itself wasn't exactly the best game, that didn't stop it from containing what has been classified as one of the greatest 16 bit soundtracks ever heard. Doom Castle is of course the song most people remember, and it is indeed so awesome, that we almost forget the game is bad.

2. Fawful's Castle - Interior
Game: Mario & Luigi 3: Bowser's Inside Story

Info: Okay, seriously, this song is just one of the themes I couldn't get out of my head after hearing it. Fawful's Castle - Interior is not only a very calm yet chilling song for the Final Dungeon, but it also has a part of Cackletta's theme remixed into it, which is also prety cool. There are two versions of it, Interior, and Interior - Icy Airway. While the Icy Airway is cool sounding and sets the mood, I still prefer the normal version as it sounds chilling, unique and cool.

Info: Within the Giant is amazing, and when heard, most people think of within the core of the moon, where it is also played. No matter what, it is a theme that is worth hearing and is totally awesome for my favourite Final Fantasy.

Sonic the Hedgehog was Sega's attempt to combat Mario, and he is still around today, challenging Mario head on in the Olympics and Winter Olympics, and even in Brawl. The Sonic series were high-speed action games, annd some of the best I played, and for this top ten list, the games were hard to decide, but, here we go, my top 10 Sonic Games, and please remember, this is all opinion, so enjoy:

Note: TO remove spoilers, I will not explain what the story is about, I will just comment on it, now enjoy:

NOTE 2: After receiving not 1, not 2, but 3 comments from a deviant (Who's name I will not say as I respect others privacy) about him explaining to me, in paragraph form that, "Sonic 3D games are horrible messes that suck balls and should not exist because they are horrible abominations to gamers everywhere, OMG" I feel the need, to rephrase myself: THIS IS AN OPINION!!! This is not, by any means something you should all be forced to follow because you read it, but in regards to this, I do not mind people sharing opinions, commenting on the list, or sharing reasons with why I may be incorrect, but please do not send me paragraphs calling me an idiot because my choices are "Incorrect" and that I didn't include favourites for everyone. THIS IS OPINION! IF YOU DON'T AGREE WITH ME, MAKE YOUR OWN BLOODY LIST! DON'T INSULT MINE BECAUSE IT'S NOT THE SAME GOD DAMN IT!

10. Sonic Unleashed
System: Nintendo Wii, Playstation 2/3, Xbox360
Info: Sonic Unleashed was highly anticipated, and is quite a surprising game. The story is awesome, the graphics are cool, and the control is sweet, and it has good music. The game differs depending on which version you picked: Xbox360 and PS3 users are treated to amazing graphics and quicktime events, PS2 gamers are treated to a gamecube style game like Sonic Adventure, while Wii players are introduced to a new style of play via the Wii remote and nunchuck controls. This game introduces a new character: Chip, to the sonic lineup, and also features the appearence of Sonic the werehog. This game is cool, unique and a good game, however, it's downside comes to its lack of playable characters, instead of being able to play as multiple characters, you are restricted to only Sonic.

9. Sonic Rivals
System: Playstation Portable
Info: Sonic Rivals tried to take us back to the 2D Sonic games, and I find it was a fair attempt, bringing some of the unique designs (even reminding me of the Stardust Speedway in one stage). The game features 5 playable characters, Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow, Silver and Metal Sonic, each with their own special ability. The gameplay involves racing your opponant to the end of the stage, which is an interesting idea, and well implimented, so overall, it's a good game, though the music could have been better.

8. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
System: Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo Gamecube, Playstation 2
Info: Sonic Adventure 2 was highly anticipated game after the success of Sonic Adventure. While it was a great game, I have to admit it was less than Sonic Adventure. It features 3 playable characters for each story, and a chance to use them all in the last story, the teams have, The Speedsters: Sonic and Shadow, The Mecha Pilots: Tails and Eggman, and the Treasure Hunters: Knuckles and Rouge. The game features a great story, awesome music, and a terrific multiplayer mode with tons of playable characters.

7. Sonic and the Black Knight
System: Nintendo Wii
Info: A Fast paced game and a successor to Sonic and the Secret Rings. Sonic and the Black Knight featured cutting edge graphics, amazing music, and an absolutly brilliant story full of twists and turns. While your restricted to playing as Sonic for most of the game, you get to play as Lancelot (Shadow), Galahad (Knuckles), and Percival (Blaze) near the end. There is also a multiplayer mode featuring multiple characters to play as.

6. Shadow the Hedgehog
System: Gamecube, Playstation 2
Info: While Sonic isn't the main character of it, Shadow the Hedgehog was a highly awaited game and I wanted it long before it came out. After it's release, I was rather impressed, the music was awesome, the graphics were cool, and the gameplay was terrific. While many sonic fans complained about the use of guns and that Sonic was not the main character, I found the game to truly be a fun and enjoyable game.

5. Sonic the Hedgehog
System: Sega Genesis/Megadrive
Info: Sonic's grand debut, and the game that drove us into the adventures of the Blue hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog drove us into collecting the 6 Chaos Emeralds and defeating Dr. Ivo Robotnik. While the series would later change, the basic plot element was almost always. The Music is nostalgic to me, and the graphics are still cool to this day, and the gameplay is fully responsive and perfect. This game, was the introduction to one of the most recognized video game icons to date.

4. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
System: Sega Genesis/Megadrive
Info: Tails' debut, and the introduction to many more elements that would later be used in future Sonic games, including Super Sonic. The story was great, the gameplay as perfect as the first sonic, and the music was perfect.

3. Sonic Adventure
System: Dreamcast, Gamecube
Info: The first 3D Sonic adventure story, Sonic Adventure knew how to keep us on our toes. With plenty of playable characters, each with their individual parts of the story being told. The stories all link into the same story, but they are all taking place at different times. The characters are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Big, E102-Gamma, and Super Sonic for the final chapter, in the re-release Metal Sonic was also given as a bonus character. The story was awesome, the music was perfect and the gameplay was great. The Graphics were cool and awesome to look at.

2. Sonic 3 & Knuckles
System: Sega Genesis/Megadrive
Info: Oftan considered the best of the 2D Sonic games, Sonic 3 & Knuckles was indeed a terrific game, involving plenty of plot turns, and different stages. The story is good, and the music is awesome. The gameplay is fully responsive and the graphics are neat and detailed. The game gave you 4 characters, Sonic & Tails, Just Sonic, Just Tails, or Knuckles. Each game had a certain number of levels and a difficulty. Sonic or Sonic & Tails was the same, and went through every stage on Normal difficulty, Tails had an easier game and only went to the Death Egg zone, and Knuckles had a Hard game which only went to Sky Sanctuary Zone.

1. Sonic CD
System: Sega CD, Gamecube, Playstation 2
Info: Released on Sega CD and as a part of the Sonic Jems Collection, Sonic CD was a game I underestimated when I first played it. I had the original Sega CD game, but my version would freeze near the end of Collision Chaos, so I couldn't ever get anywhere near the end. When it was re-released on the Sonic Jems Collection, I had the chance to play through the entire game, and It was without a doubt the best of all the Sonic games I played. There were 2 soundtracks released, 1 for Japan and Europe, and 1 for America and Canada. The graphics are highly detailed compared to the Genesis games, and the gameplay was amazing and perfectly responsive. Also, for the final Piece for what makes this game great, is that it was the debut of Amy Rose and Metal Sonic. No matter how I look at it, Sonic CD is an amazing game.

Okay, lets face it, there have countless Mario games, there are so many, that you must have played at least one of them at some point, but which of these games rank as the best? I don't know, but I am going to do my top 10 favourite Mario games. Remember, this is all opinion, you don't have to believe it, but enjoy anyway ^^


10. New Super Mario Brothers
System: Nintendo DS
Reason: New Super Mario Brothers was a full attempt at recreating a classic Mario game with new elements, such as the wall jump and unique power ups, and surprisingly, the idea caught on. The game is very similar to the original Super Mario Brothers, but with moves from the 3D games, such as the multi jump, and the wall jump which add interesting challenges to the game. There are multiple worlds, starting with Grass Land, to Dark Land, and as you play through, you unlock more worlds to play in. Some are hidden quite well, and I can honestly say, I enjoy this game a lot.

09. Luigi's Mansion
System: Nintendo GameCube
Reason: With so many Mario games, it became a wonder why Mario's brother, Luigi, didn't star in some games as well. Than, Luigi's Mansion was released, an interesting new concept of having Mario get kidnapped and having Luigi have to rescue his brother. Unlike Mario who had a brave personality, Luigi was given an easily frightened personality, which made his role in this game more believable, and more interesting to play through, though Luigi is easily frightened, he still is determined to go into a haunted Mansion to rescue his brother. The gameplay for the game is unique compared to most Mario games. After gaining help from the paranormal researcher, Prof. E. Gadd, Luigi must go from room to room in the mansion, solving puzzles, and catching ghosts in the Poltergeist 2000. This made for a cool adventure, as you never know what awaits you as you head through the haunted Mansion.

08. Super Mario World
System: Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Reason: This was one of the very first Mario games I played, and it was a fun enjoyable adventure. It was long, tricky, and most stages added a brand new challenge and new enemies you would need to figure out. The game contained 96 exits to all the levels to find, making it quite a challenge to complete, and there are hidden stages meant to put your gaming skills to the test. This game also featured the first appearance of Yoshi into the Mario series. The story, was after the events of Super Mario Brothers 3, Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach decide to take a vacation to Yoshi's Island. Upon arriving, Mario and Luigi are surprised to find that Princess Peach is kidnapped again, and discover that it is the work of Bowser yet again. They soon meet up with Yoshi, and the three march across the various parts of Dinosaur Island (Which Yoshi's Island is a part of), to rescue Peach again. This game was fun, and if you don't like the original, you can play numerous different versions, because there are almost unlimited hacks of Mario World, in fact, I have my own version I am making (Unfinished at this time, but almost done )

07. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
System: Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Reason: Another Mario game i played early on, this one was a fun and interesting game. Rather than starring Mario like the other games, this game is a prequel. Mario is only a baby, and Yoshi must carry him through the stages. The game featured various new moves including the flutter jump, egg throwing, and ground pounding (Most of these moves would be kept for Yoshi). The story, is that while the stork was on route to deliver Mario and Luigi to their parents, he was ambushed by Kamek, Bowser's magikoopa caretaker, but Kamek goofs and only captures Luigi and the Stork. Mario falls onto Yoshi's island, and lands right on his back. Confused, the Yoshis relise that the babies bond lets them know whewre each other are, so the YOshi's begin carrying Mario to his brother. As you play through the game, the challenges get harder and harder, until you finally come face to face with the bratty prince of koopas, Baby Bowser. This game was fun, and unique.

06. Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door
System: Nintendo GameCube
Reason: After Super Mario RPG, a sequel was introduced in Nintendo Power, however, this was not Super Mario RPG 2, it would be released as Paper Mario, a whole new Mario RPG series. The game was a hit, and the sequel for it was planned and made. Released on Gamecube, Paper Mario 2 features similar gameplay to the original, but with many upgraded features, as well as slight changes. It offers challenging puzzles, and of course, awesome RPG gameplay. Probably the best thing about this game though, is that the art style is done as if the game is a book, rather than a door just opening, the door could be a sticky note that is removed upon solving a puzzle. Even Mario transforms into different paper objects, such as paper planes, paper boats, etc. The story was also great, involving Princess Peach taking a vacation to a nearby town called Rogueport, and getting kidnapped upon discovering an ancient map to the treasures known as Crystal Stars, by using these, the Thousand Year Door can be opened, so Mario races to save Peach and open the door from his newest enemies, the X Nauts. This game also featured scenes where you play as Peach in captivity (Like in the first Paper Mario), but even let you play as Bowser in some cutscenes. Fun for all ages XD

05. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
System: Nintendo GameBoy Advance
Reason: Another addition to the RPG series, Mario & Luigi was a comedy based RPG involving Mario & Luigi in their journey to recover Princess Peach's voice from the evil Witch of Beanbean Kingdom, Cackletta. Mario & Luigi travel all over the nearby Kingdom, meet up with new people, and fight their way through numerous enemies they encounter on their journeys. The game was such a hit, that it spawned 2 sequels, but in my opinion, neither can match up to the original. Mario & Luigi was a great comedy game, and a terrific adventure to play through.

04. Super Mario RPG
System: Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Reason: Before Paper Mario, and Mario & Luigi, there was Super Mario RPG, the very first Mario RPG, and it truly was the best of them. Produced by Squaresoft (who also created Final Fantasy), Super Mario RPG featured a style involving classic puzzle solving on the overworld, and RPG battling for fighting. The story involves Bowser kidnapping the Princess AGAIN, but as Mario saves her, a giant sword falls from the heavens and lands in Bowser's castle. As Mario returns to retrieve Princess Peach, the sword reveals itself to be Exor, the gateway to Smithy's dimension, and destroys the bridge to Bowser's keep. With the bridge out, Mario must travel all around the Mushroom Kingdom, and find an alternate route, but as he travels, he meets up with many people (Including Bowser and Princess Peach) and they all decide, that they must restore the Star Road (which was destroyed by Exor in the opening) and defeat Smithy and his men to restore peace to the world. It was a great game, and the story really kept you moving. It was truly a great game.

03. Super Mario 64
System: Nintendo 64
Reason: One of the first 3D games to come out that didn't suck terribly, Super Mario 64 involves Mario as he journeys through Princess Peach's castle, which Bowser has invaded and somehow taken all the power stars, magic essences in the castle, and hidden them in paintings throughout the castle. It is now up to Mario to run through the castle and collect the stars, as well as save the Princess from Bowser. A long game with 120 stars to collect, Super Mario 64 was a great game, and was the first 3D Mario game, which would pave the way for even more to follow.

02. Super Mario Galaxy
System: Nintendo Wii
Reason: This game, was so awesome, it features a unique event in the Mushroom Kingdom where a comet passes the planet, so the Toads celebrate it as a Festival of the Stars. However, this time, Bowser decides to storm the celebration, and kidnaps the Princess in order to show her his evil plan. During all the commotion, Bowser and his Doomship lift up the Princess's castle, and Kamek knocks Mario off of it and into space. Mario awakens on a small planet, greeted by Star beings called Lumas. The Lumas introduce Mario to Rosalina, who explains that Bowser stole the power to her observatory, which is the comet that passes by the planet during the Toad's festival. She explains that Bowser has taken Peach to the center of the universe, but without the 120 stars powering the observatory, it cannot move. So Mario jumps in to stop Bowser's plans, collect the stars, and save Princess Peach. However, after this occurs, Luigi also jumps in in an alternate story in which Mario is nowhere to be seen, and Luigi attempts to stop Bowser's plans. The controls, story and music in this game are all mind blowingly good, and I truly think this is one of the best Mario games ever made.

01. Super Mario Brothers 3
System: Nintendo Entertainment System
Reason: Like you didn't see this one coming. To be honest, this was one of the very first video games I ever played. Super Mario Brothers 3 was the most anticipated Mario game ever made, in fact, it had a movie, in which the highlight was to advertise this game (as well as other Nintendo products). Super Mario Brothers 3 didn't disappoint, and is still considered by fans everywhere to be the greatest Mario game ever made. Regardless, it is the greatest selling game in existence, with over 18 million copies produced and sold. The game has been recreated on numerous systems, and was recently re-released on the Wii. Only the original and Wii re-release are the true experience, as all the ports tend to make the game easier. The game takes place a short time after Super Mario Brothers and the Lost levels. Princess Peach receives an emergency letter from Toad stating that the king of Grass Land has been transformed into an animal by the Koopas, so she sends Mario and Luigi out to assist. Mario and Luigi discover that Bowser sent his Koopa kids out to cause problems, as Peach constantly alerts them of where they attack, but in a turn of events, after saving the 7th world, the Mario brothers receive a letter from Bowser informing them that while they were fighting his kids, Bowser kidnapped Princess Peach, and is now holding her in his castle in Dark Land. Mario and Luigi head into Dark Land and brave Bowser's Doom Tanks, Doom Subs and the dreaded Doom Ship! After disarming all of Bowser's weapons, the brothers prepare for their battle with Bowser. This was a truly amazing Mario game, and involved 8 worlds of tests and puzzles, and featured unique power ups. Almost all Mario games have included some kind of reference to it (Music use, Items, Enemy names, etc) and it is still remembered as one of the greatest games ever made. I'd play it any day.
